Taking advantage of this definite off-time, I will go tomorrow, by train, to <strong>Jinju<\/strong>, <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/yuletide5142.weebly.com\/1\/post\/2013\/06\/post-97-jiri-mountain-vacation.html\">where I was a month ago<\/a>. Jinju has a kind of bibimbap which is served with raw beef or raw fish, which I am curious to try (\uc9c4\uc8fc\ube44\ube54\ubc25). I was very impressed with Jinju in my last trip. It&#8217;s a nice city which lacks the pretension I see as common in the Seoul Megalopolis. <\/p>\n<p><span>Here is a map of Jinju, which sits near the south coast in &#8220;Gyeongnam Province&#8221;, ancestral home of President Park.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wsite-map\"><iframe allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 350px; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.weebly.com\/weebly\/apps\/generateMap.php?map=google&amp;elementid=410241493724088663&amp;ineditor=0&amp;control=3&amp;width=500px&amp;height=350px&amp;overviewmap=1&amp;scalecontrol=0&amp;typecontrol=0&amp;zoom=8&amp;long=128.1076213&amp;lat=35.1799817&amp;domain=www&amp;point=1&amp;align=2\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left;\">I will be back to Jinju a third (and perhaps final) time in September 2013, but the circumstances will be very different. More on that later.\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"height: 20px; overflow: hidden; width: 100%;\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"styled-hr\" style=\"width:100%;\">\n<div style=\"height: 20px; overflow: hidden; width: 100%;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left;\">I&#8217;m told that this Wednesday-Thursday-Friday vacation is mandated by the provincial government. Forcing all institutes to have the same days off prevents typical Korean  hyper-competition from&#8230;well, for example:<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"\">Director of Institute A:<\/strong><em style=\"\">   &#8220;Aha! Institute B is still going to be open next Friday! I know I   promised it as a vacation day, but we cannot afford to close! The   mothers may see us as being lazy and bring their children to Institute   B&#8230;Cancel your plans now. It will be a normal work day!&#8221; No discussion!!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(The   institute that I have the displeasure of currently working at honors   neither the contracts they produce nor the law regarding [among other   things] vacation days. They lie, promising days off, but refuse to give   them, and threaten you if you get too &#8220;rude&#8221; in asking too much about them. When they do give   them, it is strictly when it is convenient for them [a single extraneous Thursday, say].   Looking back over the two most recent foreign-teachers who have ended   their time here, <a style=\"\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/yuletide5142.weebly.com\/1\/post\/2013\/06\/post-93-what-the-opposite-of-golden-handshake.html\">M.R. and J.H.<\/a><a style=\"\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/yuletide5142.weebly.com\/1\/post\/2013\/06\/post-93-what-the-opposite-of-golden-handshake.html\">,<\/a> both ended up without having received the vacation days the law specifies they must get.
